Meet Pete and Alice! Alice is our show room manager and chief mechanic in our mill! Pete is some guy who walked in off the street, and Alice took pity on him!
Our previous mill, it was sad to leave the old building
Meet Charlie! Charlie has been in the thread business over 50 years. After WWII, he settled in Gastonia, with his wife Evelyn. During the week, Charlie worked in his home, winding crochet thread on several machines. On the weekends he would load his car and sell thread out of his car to women who stopped by. Soon he outgrew the car, so he began setting up a tent on a corner. A friend, who owned a gas station, asked him to place the tent at his gas station and that's where Charlie sold thread for several years. Many women came every weekend! His reputation as the best thread man around grew, enabling him to move on to bigger and better things...Today, Charlie has customers in every state in the nation.
The photo below is our sideless prewound bobbin machine. We also sell cardboard sided bobbins as well as NEBS plastic sided bobbins. Every bobbin is first quality, never seconds. If you have trouble with ANY box of bobbins you order from us, send it back, we'll even pay the shipping...and we'll send a new box.
Charlie's angel
The winding machines are decades old. Alice keeps them running smoothly, but parts are becoming very hard to find. Stop by the mill to watch the thread! When the machines are running, you can barely hold a conversation due to the noise.
Jessie has worked for Charlie for 33 years!
